The DDD Quest: Part 1-An Introduction and Chronicle of The Quest as of Today

Me and my dad are "Triple D" geeks; by "Triple D" I mean the TV show "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" (mondays at 10PM on Food Network). DDD highlights restaurants across America, 3 per episode, that would be classified as hidden gems or local legends. My father and I have made it our duty to try and visit these when we can, and have so far visited 5:

Pizza Palace-Knoxville, TN

Pizza Palace was tasty. Simple as that. Also the only drive-in I've ever seen that serves authentic Italian food.

Marietta Diner-Marietta, GA

Here's the thing about the Marietta Diner. Uncle Gus. Uncle Gus was the chef at the Diner when DDD filmed that episode, but between then and when we ate there, there was a dispute and he left to open his own place. Marietta Diner was good but not exceptional, and I think the lack of Gus is to blame. Maybe my hopes were too high, I dunno.

The Beacon-Spartanburg, SC

The Beacon was disgusting in an awesome way. Ridiculous amounts of food, amazing sweet tea, and of course, the order-caller J.C.

The Colonnade-Atlanta, GA

The Colonnade was expensive, but delicious. More appropriate for a celebratory meal or some such occasion. Specials that day included seared kangaroo, rabbit, and corn flake-crusted french toast.

The Silver Skillet-Atlanta, GA

Great biscuits, better chicken. Walking to the bathroom leads you through the kitchen, which was pretty cool. Probably my fave of the 5 we've done so far.

more to come, hopefully

Sounds for your ear-holes!

A couple awesome bands you guys should be listening to:

The Good Natured
myspace.com/thegoodnatured

This young lady, only 18 years of age, knows how to make awesome electro-pop. It's like breakbeat, but with flowers and puppies and unicorns! Her debut EP, "Warriors", can be purchased on iTunes. 4 bucks for 4 tunes. VERY WORTH IT.

The Bran Flakes
myspace.com/thebranflakes

These guys are harder to describe. Imagine if Kermit The Frog got into the dance music scene. Yeah. They're selling their newest album on their website, but they're doing it Radiohead-style, letting folks name their own price. Yep, you can pick up the whole album, 30 tracks, for free if you choose.

Enjoy

"Darkly Dreaming Dexter" meets "Donnie Darko"?

Wrote an e-mail last night to Dan Licht, the man behind the "Dexter" score, asking about the possibility of Michael Andrews' "Donnie Darko" score as an inspiration. Check out what I'm talking about:

Michael Andrews' "Liquid Spear Waltz", edited to some footage from "Halo"

"Wink" from the "Dexter" soundtrack

What do you think?

Here it is

hmmmm

i feel myself having less and less to say in these postings. i mean, I've never said much, but I've always had something. I'd like to keep doing this for as long as possible, but if it gets to the point where it feels like a chore to post in it between every class, I'll have to stop.

a little late

at home now. didnt get around to post 3. sorry. so i'll do it now.

that SKANK magician hit me in the arm with a card and it stung a little. and he gave another kid 20 bucks. how screwed up is that?

then, i tried to buy some choc. chip cookies out of the vending machine and ended up getting a strawberry Pop Tart on accident.

then my nose bled for no reason.

tyler

somebody KILL ME!

they hired a magician to give a free show in the student center. apparently, we're 10 years old.

ugh.

at least he's kinda funny.

tyler

sleeeepy

back from the looooong weekend.

saw My Bloody Valentine on friday night (2D version though). it was cheesy and gory, just as it should be.

Bought a couple more books, so I've shelved "My Boring-ass Life" for the time being, so I can read "Tesla: A Man Out of Time". Tesla was a p-i-m-p.

ok. til next time.

break III

Just relaxin in the student center, listenin to music.

Doing a lot of Stumbling. No class 'til 5:30.

I'm sleeeeeepy.

Break 2

More crappy pizza today.

Just talked to Cierra and we discussed her freshman orientation for Pellissippi State, which went well, and her plans to visit sometime at the end of this month.

So now to find something to do for 45 minutes. Probably Facebook, StumbleUpon, and Kevin Smith. I'm not sure.

tyler

bored, of course

Ummmmm...hey.

First break of the day is the worst, in my opinion. It's early, so I'm still not at 100% and there's nobody I know in the student center.

But I've still gotta do a little write-up for Composition, but after that, I dunno what I'm gonna do. I think Corey left our rented copy of "The Sarah Silverman Program: Season 1" in my DVD drive, so maybe I'll watch that.

I'm not gonna be posting a blog this Friday, as I only have one class that day, but Friday blogs will continue next week.

Cheetos

Last break of the day!

I was starving, so I ate a snack of Cheetos and Famous Amos cookies. Cheetos are tasty, but they get your fingers all dirty and they get stuck in your teeth. Tragic.

I went to check out the book fair, and I can't figure out why it's here. None of the books are for our demographic.

UGH! Over an hour 'til Self-Defense.

I talked to my homie Cierra, who may be coming down from Knoxville to visit pretty soon. It's gonna be a party.

tyler
It's lunch period and I just got out of Composition. We discussed: cars, identity, change, education, technology, morals, and s**t. Deep discussions, a good class overall. I had to read "Crap Detecting", "How to Mark a Book", and "How to Say Nothing in 500 Words" and we were discussing those. Had pepperoni pizza from the cafeteria for lunch. Meh.

They're having a Scholastic Book Fair here! Like in elementary school. I still need to go check it out.

Right now I'm chillin' with David and I've still got like an hour til my next class. Ugh.

Schedule and Mistaken Identity

I'll give you guys a little break-down of my Monday and Wednesday schedule, to show you exactly how all this free time works out.

From 9-9:50 AM, I have "Quantitative Skills and Reason", followed by a break lasting 1 hr 10 mins.

Total Break Time: 1:10

At 11, and lasting until 11:50 AM, I have "Compostion I". Afterwards, I get 1 hr 25 mins for lunch. (On Fridays, this is where my day ends.)

Total Break Time: 2:35

After lunch, I have "American History Through Film" from 1:15 til 2:30 PM. Then, a short 10 minute break beefore my next class.

Total Break Time: 2:45

"Survey of US History I" is up next, from 2:40-3:55 PM. My last break of the day is 1 hr 35 mins, ending the day with "Self-defense" (5:30-6:45)

Total Break Time: 4:20

So there you have it. That's how I get so much free time.

So far, today's been pretty uneventful. Basic stuff in math.

Somebody from the "Atlanta Business Journal" (or something like that) called me during math and left a message, so I called back to let them know they'd gotten the wrong person, so that they'd know their mistake and try to reach the right person, but we couldn't figure out who'd called me, but they were gonna try and figure it out.

Alright, til lunch,

tyler

HAI GUYS!!!!1

I have a lot of time between my classes at Gainesville State, so I decided a blog might kill some time. Read it. Don't. I don't care. I just don't wanna die of boredom.

The real posts should start tomorrow.
